Gerd Meyer

Gerd Meyer, adjunct professor of chemistry (ISU), emeritus professor (U Cologne, Germany), received his Diploma (1971) and Dr. rer. nat. degrees (1976) from the Justus Liebig University (JLU) at Giessen. He held a permanent staff position at JLU (Akademischer Rat, 1977-1988) and was a postdoctoral research associate with Prof. John D. Corbett at Iowa State (1980) and a frequent visiting scholar/professor ever since. Dr. Meyer was named Privat-Dozent at Giessen in 1982. In 1988 he joined the chemistry faculty at University of Hannover, Germany, as full professor, where he also served as department chair for five years. In 1996, he moved on to the University of Cologne, Germany, where he held a chaired position until his (mandatory) retirement in 2014. He received the Carl-Duisberg-Gedächtnispreis of the German Chemical Society and the Preis der Justus-Liebig-Universität, both in 1987, the Gold Medal of the University of Wroclaw, Poland, in 2000, the Terrae Rarae Award in 2005, the Frank H. Spedding Award in 2011, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry since 2009 and a member of the American and German Chemical Societies. Dr. Meyer served as editor-in-chief of the open access journal Crystals (2011-2014) and is an editor of the Inorganic Chemistry textbook series of Wiley Chichester (15 titles since 1993).
